Training workshop at Princess Rahmah and Princess Bade’ah hospitals for the focal points of the JSANDSAnas Matalkah
The JSANDS team held a third training workshop in May, 2019 to familiarize the focal points at both Rahmah and Bade’ah hospitals in Irbid with the JSANDS surveillance system and train them on how to use it. The director of Nursing at the two hospitals and senior head nurses of both the midwifery unit and NICU participated this workshop. The JSANDS team used the webpage of the JSANDS system (www.jsands.jo) during the training session to allow the nurses to get familiar with the process of registering all neonatal births, neonatal deaths, and stillbirths, if any. The JSANDS team emphasized the importance of accurately and completely filling out the online neonatal births and/or deaths notification forms without any missing data to permit accurate data that can be used to identify the exact cause of death (neonatal versus maternal causes). The director of Nursing at Bade’ah hospital said that we need such a system in Jordan to shed the light on the exact numbers and preventable causes of neonatal deaths and stillbirths whether they occur during the intrapartum or antenatal period. All participating nurses in this workshop were given a hard copy of the training manual of the JSANDS to guide them during the online documentation process step-by-step. The focal points who attended this training workshop promised to start training other nurses at their departments in the two hospitals to ensure that every nurse who attends neonatal births and/or death comprehensively report it on the JSANDS surveillance system.
